Power of ACTION

In our life action gives us results. Nothing else will. Taking action is the single most important step in reaching goals, getting fit, having clients, having fun and learning new things.

Action is a noun, indicating an act of will or the process of getting a thing done . Taking action turns impossible into possible, it’s exciting when you turn plans into action.

If you want to accomplish great things create a need. There is a Japanese proverb, “Need drives action and everyone needs something.”

The following 6 action steps will help you accomplish anything:

  1. Plan the steps
  2. Take the first step
  3. Follow through to completion
  4. Don’t expect perfection
  5. Look for ways to improve
  6. Repeat the process

Plan the steps.

The key here is to realize you don’t need to know all the steps. Decide the first step. Plan as far as you can. Often we get stuck because we want to know it all, we want to know what all the steps are.

Planning is bringing the future into the present so that you can do something about it now”. - Alan Lakein

Take the first step.

Get started even if you do not know all you need to know. There really is truth to “just-in-time learning.”

I find that once I am started on something, several things happen. First, I know more clearly what I need to know. And second, the resources and answers I need seem to come my way. This doesn’t happen if I wait to know everything before I start.

Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase”.

- Martin Luther King, Jr.

Follow through to completion.

How many times have you started on your dreams only to stop halfway through? I have. Building a business, writing a book, getting a degree all require following through to completion. Keep on keeping on!

It was character that got us out of bed, commitment that moved us into action, and discipline that enabled us to follow through”. -Zig Ziglar

Don’t expect perfection.

Nothing is perfect. Yet we tend to become hung up on waiting for things to be perfect. Keep moving. You will become better and better.

Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence”. -Vince Lombardi

Look for ways to improve.

I know I just said things will never be perfect. Yet they can always improve. So as you take action, make adjustments that streamline the process, or improve your presentations, or enhance your customer service, etc.

Improvement begins with I”. -Arnold H. Glasow

Repeat the process.

Start back at the beginning, plan the next step, follow through, don’t expect perfection, look for ways to improve, and repeat the process.

“Inch by inch, life’s a cinch”.  -  John Bytheway

Each step is easy to execute. The hard part is getting started and maintaining momentum. Find ways to keep yourself moving. Don’t stop because something didn’t go as planned instead pause and ask yourself, “What can I learn from this?”
